Garment filler refers to the material filled between the garment fabric and the lining. For example, cotton and down filled in cotton and down jackets. The purpose of filling between clothing surfaces is to provide clothing with warmth, cooling or other special functions (such as radiation resistance, sanitary care, etc.).

1. Packing classification.

Garment fillers can be divided into two categories. One type is flocculent filler, which refers to loose flocculent materials such as textile fibers and down that have not been woven. Such as cotton, silk floss, duck down, camel hair and so on. This material needs to be sealed and quilted in use. It is easy to fall off while wearing, and there are differences in thickness and density. The other is material stuffing, which is a soft, uniform, and fixed sheet-like substance that can be cut together with fabrics, and some can be washed with clothing, such as acrylic cotton, space cotton, etc. Natural fur, artificial fur, etc. are also material fillers.

2. Varieties of fillers.

With the advancement of learning technology and the development of functional clothing, there are more and more clothing fillers. At present, the main varieties of fillers are:

1. Cotton.

Cotton is a commonly used thermal insulation material. It is soft and warm, comfortable to wear, and inexpensive. It is suitable for cotton-padded clothes, cotton trousers, children's cotton, etc.

2. Silk floss.

A flocculent material finished with the messy silk on the surface of the cocoon or peeled cocoon: The silk floss has long fibers, good elasticity, fluffy and soft, and has better warmth retention performance than cotton. But the price is so high that it cannot be washed. Suitable for high-quality cotton and silk cotton.

3. Down.

Down is used as a clothing filling material, which is made by rinsing and finishing short poultry down. Mainly used as a filler for cold-proof clothing. Down fiber is soft, fluffy, light, comfortable, and has good warmth retention. Commonly used down includes duck down, goose down and so on. Wild duck down is a good product of down.

4. Acrylic cotton.

The flocculent filler processed by acrylic fiber has good heat preservation performance, can be cut separately, is not easy to deform, is stiff, easy to wash and easy to sun, but has poor durability.

5. Space cotton.

Also known as aerospace cotton or metal cotton, it was originally an inner lining material worn by astronauts in space, and later converted into civilian use. It is a new type of cold-proof material that is thin, light, and very warm. Space cotton has a long service life, is light, thin and soft, has a simple production process, and is convenient to retract, suitable for winter cold protection fashion. The disadvantage is that the space cotton conducts moisture, has poor air permeability and is stuffy and hot to wear.
